I took Sarah to dinner at a Mexican restaurant that we both liked in Toledo. Afterwards we went to a bar to shoot some pool. It was July 2009. We were both nervous, as neither of us had been on a date for quite some time but at the same time we were very comfortable around each other and the date felt very natural. We laughed a lot and at the end of the night, made plans for our second date (the next night :)
It was Christmas Eve and were actually both at home that day, so we were going to celebrate Christmas a day early. When our cat Sheldon jumped on the bed that morning, Chris pushed him away, which was weird but I didn't think much of it at the time. When I got up, there was a note taped to my phone. It was the first clue in a scavenger hunt that led me all around our small apartment, and there was even one attached to the cat. He had to help me with some of the clues, I was overthinking them. The final clue was in our tiny kitchen and it told me to go to the dining room to receive my gift.
When I turned around, Chris was waiting on one knee to propose, but I wasn't paying attention to him and was still looking for my Christmas present. He had to whistle and actually call my name to get my attention. Even then I was confused and it wasn't until he showed me the ring and asked me to to marry him that I realized what was happening. I was totally surprised and had no idea it was coming. :)
